Back To Square One...Again

The Dying Illini finally dropped the trap door from under Ron Turner today. Turner's farewell statement (farewell statement? At the press conference to announce his firing?) noted that
I'm disappointed that we were not able to sustain the success we had from 1999-2002 where we had a 28-18 record, 2 bowl appearances (and a few plays away from four straight bowl games), the school's first outright Big Ten Championship since 1983 and third since 1951, a final season ranking of 12 (7 after regular season), a school's first ever BCS bowl, the Sugar Bowl, numerous team and individual records on offense (rushing and passing), defense and special teams.
His farewell statement did not note that his record in the "other" four years was 7-39, no bowl appearances, 3 last-place Big Ten finishes, a winless season, a second season with only one win (vs. a Division II opponent), and numerous fans disgruntled with the offense (rushing and passing), defense and special teams.

Jammin'

Played bass with Seabird & the Laurx Brothers yesterday. It is great fun to play, but I've got to say that I still bite hard! Hadn't played bass in 20+ years before playing with them last month, and the rust is still very thick. Getting better at following changes, though. Maybe in a while I'll actually be able to start anticipating them!

Fav songs to play yesterday: "Rockin' In The Free World" & "Psycho Killer" (w/ a "Take Me To The River" lope behind it). As ever, hopin' to get invited back for more.

New Season

Wildcat opener yesterday at Rupp. Easy win, as expected, over an outclassed Coppin State. As ever, you should never lose to a state that isn't a state.

By all accounts, the newcomers looked as advertised -- 3 treys for Sparks...6 dimes for Ramel...5 swipes for Rajon...4 fouls in 11 minutes for Morris the Cat. Oh well, you can't have everything.

An interesting season in the offing. Can't wait to see what Tubby can do with this group -- his record with overly talented teams is not great.
